Yazd is a pretty chilled out city surrounded by deserts. The more interesting sights relate to its Zoroastrian history, and you can visit both a Zoroastrian fire temple and climb up the Tower of Silence, where they practiced sky burials (until 1970s), i.e. leaving the bodies on a platform to be picked apart by vultures.
